Having recently dabbled in oil painting, I look with a more appreciative eye at all art.
In attempting to learn how to play the guitar, I listen with a keener ear to all music.
In the same way, in learning to read, should children not read everything else with a more interested perspective? In learning biology, should children not encounter the physical world with greater awe? Perhaps the purpose of education should not be to crank out A+ droids who can “do” college successfully.
Rather, perhaps education should be purely to pique interest, to build a wide appreciation, so that learning becomes driven by the learner, not for a grades’ sake, or for money’s sake, or for college’s sake, but for learning’s sake. For appreciation’s sake. For awe’s sake.
